Volunteers collected almost 1 ton of debris — including eight tires — at a Nestucca Bay Cleanup on April 11.

Nearly a ton of debris collected at Nestucca Bay Cleanup

Many hands make light work. A total of 33 volunteers responded to the Nestucca, Neskowin and Sand Lake Watersheds Council call for help for its April 11 cleanup of Nestucca Bay. In total they collected nearly a ton of trash with the help of boats provided courtesy of Nestucca Anglers and Oregon Department of Fish & Wildlife.

Debris collected included many bags of small plastic debris, eight tires, a water slide, and a torn-up raft.

“The 2026 Nestucca Bay Cleanup was a tremendous success due to the amazing team of volunteers we had join us for the event,” said Natalie Nites, executive director of Nestucca, Neskowin & Sand Lake Watersheds Council. “The Nestucca Anglers did an excellent job ferrying people around the Bay and helping with the trash pick up. There was an exceptionally large volume of trash cleaned up this year compared to previous years, and we’d like to think that’s due to the flooding events of the winter and early spring. We are beyond grateful to the volunteers in this community for joining us to make this one of our most impactful cleanups yet.”
